Learning Outcomes
General principles of adult and active learning guide the teaching and learning methods for the OTD program. These principles embrace experiential and reflective learning in the natural context of professional practice.
Students who successfully complete the Institute’s OTD program will:
- Analyze, articulate, and apply therapeutic use of everyday life activities (occupations) to support the health and participation of individuals and populations across the lifespan.
- Acquire a critical foundation of evidence based professional knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effectively communicate and contribute to the practice of occupational therapy.
- Collaborate interprofessionally to provide compassionate, ethical, effective, efficient, and quality client-centered care.
- Critically reflect on one’s own skills, judgments, and actions to reason professionally and develop
habits of mind to practice in a variety of care delivery systems.
- Engage in scholarly activities to promote the translation of policy and research to practice to advance the knowledge base of occupational therapy.
- Integrate theory into practice and demonstrate synthesis of advanced knowledge in a specialized practice area through completion of a doctoral capstone experience and scholarly project.
- Appreciate and respect diverse perspectives gained from curricular and field experiences to understand and effectively serve individuals, groups, and populations.
- Demonstrate active involvement in professional development, leadership, and advocacy within health care and the profession of occupational therapy.
