2.4 Required Attendance

Students in the MS-HPEd program are required to attend synchronous courses including: HE742 Innovation Seminar during the first term of the program (typically Thursday, Friday, Saturday during the second week of September) and the annual HE743/HE747 Scholarship/Capstone Seminar (typically Monday-Wednesday following the third Sunday in June). Dates for these courses will change when thee dates conflict with holidays.  Students must attend HE742, HE743, and HE747. Students are welcome to continue participating in HE743 prior to graduation; however, they are only required to attend it once prior to HE747. These activities are central to the program’s effectiveness in fostering learner communities and in creating a forum for current issue discussions and student project presentations. These courses became virtual during the COVID-19 pandemic and remain virtual for AY22-23. An onsite option may be added in future academic years. When on-site seminars are held, participants will arrange for their own travel and lodging while in the Boston area. Anyone requiring assistance should contact the program office. The HE742 Innovations Seminar sets the stage for the admitted cohort to become acquainted, define personal goals for their studies and define researchable educational questions, launch the foundational course work, and begin to think beyond their current understanding of education in the health professions. This course features workshops, study groups, and keynote sessions. The HE743/HE747 Scholarship Capstone Seminar provides an opportunity for students to present their Scholarly Projects and also includes workshops and keynote sessions.
