Physical Therapy Orthopaedic Clinical Residency

The Institute offers a Clinical Residency in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy credentialed by the American Physical Therapy Association’s American Board of Residency and Fellowship Education. The 12-month residency program provides physical therapist residents with didactic and clinical educational opportunities that will improve their ability to integrate scientific knowledge and clinical practice instruction, and will facilitate development of advanced diagnostic, clinical decision-making, and hands-on clinical skills in orthopaedic physical therapy. The residency program is structured to meet the Description of Specialty Practice that will qualify residents upon completion of the program to sit for the APTA’s orthopaedic specialist certification exam.

Residents are matched with a clinical partner where, over the 12 month program, the resident completes a minimum of 1000 hours of paid practice with a specified mix of orthopaedic patients, 150 hours of unpaid one-to-one mentoring, 150 hours of didactic learning through structured coursework, and 360 hours of resident-directed learning which may include a variety of activities including mentored clinical research, community outreach, paid experience as a laboratory instructor in the Institute’s DPT or MS programs, and completion of APTA Orthopaedic Section Home Study courses.

The Clinical Residency Program is currently under review.
